An individual who laced sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to children at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children both between nine and ten.
The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.
Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor explained objects including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson notified the authorities about his concerns.
She explained Ruben proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining the police response of the situation.
The legal representative said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the police a second time.
She explained Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
