Each time a significant prize-giving event nears, one notices a clamor for the addition of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of followers with niche passions.
My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: We need an award type for logic-based games.
Categorizing Game Types
Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types actually cover many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely that year
- Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title got ignored that year
- Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.
And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait generations.
